ENCOURAGING PUBLIC DEBATE
ON RADICALISM IN SERBIA
The project objective is to encourage public debate and raise
awareness about the role of Serbian radical groups in propagating ethnic cleansing in
former Yugoslavia. To achieve this objective the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights
disseminates information emerging from the trial of Vojislav Seselj about the role of
radical groups in propagating ethnic cleansing in former Yugoslavia. Since this trial
provides a unique opportunity to open up public dialogue on the recent past and promote a
new set of values necessary for Serbia's transformation into a modern democracy, the
project focuses on the wider public, especially the youth. The project activities include
online distribution of the trial analyses and reports illustrative of its substance,
quarterly panel discussions at Serbia's major university centers, TV debates on regional
TV stations, and stage local campaigns by and for young people. Some segments of this
12-month project are implemented in partnership with the Youth Initiative for Human Rights
(YIHR).
The project is realized thanks to the assistance of the National
Endowment for Democracy. |
