FACING THE TRUTH 2008: THE
HELSINKI CHARTER
Generally speaking, the project advocates Serbia's modernization
and Europeanization, as well as regional stabilization. As such, it presents
thought-provoking positions that, more often than not, stand for alternative stands to
Serbia's political and cultural mainstream. With the aim of attaining its goals the
project engages outstanding figures from Serbia's "alternative" and other
authors with expertise in the areas of its concern, edits and publishes their articles and
other relevant writings in The Helsinki Charter bimonthly, circulated in 3,000 copies. On
average, each out of 6 annual double-issues carries about 30 analytical, investigative and
attention capturing pieces. Taken as a whole, the project pinpoints the stumbling blocks
in the way of Serbia's "normalization" and constitution as a modern and
Europe-oriented state on the one hand, and, on the other, provides insights into realistic
concerns that are inseparable from full respect for human rights (particularly the rights
of socially marginalized groups), efficient and accountable governance and compliance with
international standards and obligations. Integral issues in Serbian and about seven
topical articles in English are also available at the Helsinki Committee's web site at www.helsinki.org.yu.
This longstanding project is realized with the assistance of the
Norwegian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights. |
